About Tropics

Our ethos is to provide opportunities for people of all ages and walks of life to be active and enjoy the wonderful game.

We currently operate two senior local league teams. Those teams have players aged 17-48, all with different playing experiences from simply shooting down the park to National League. Drop-in sessions are available throughout the season to enable additional opportunities to those not able to commit to a full season of play.

We are gradually growing our offering and are developing dedicated sessions for girls and young players. encouraging new players to discover the wonderful game. Check out the Teams and Sessions page to see what is currently available.

We are a friendly bunch who want to enjoy, learn and grow the game together.

Originally the Tropics were known as Angmering GSD which got together in 2020 and were part of the Bognor Regis-based club Bognor GSD. The GSD club had some strong years but eventually disbanded in 2024.

The early Angmering GSD teams were a story of grassroots sport where a local community helped get behind a local amateur sports team. The early Wednesday night sessions allowed like-minded adults to be social, get some exercise, and have fun. Some highlights were winning the Sussex Basketball Mens Div 2 title in 23-24 and thanks to a fixture clash we even won two games simultaneously on the same night!

Since the roots of the orrigional team had been inherited from some previous players who went by the name of Worthing Tropics, many moons ago, we felt a nod to history was in order and a rebrand for the 25-26 season saw the birth of the Angmering Tropics. This time not just as a team but as a club.

Throughout this time, we have formed a partnership with The Angmering School and raised money to refurbish its 30-year-old sports hall for the benefit of all users. In August 2020, a fundraiser was set up with the aim of raising £500 to purchase new basketball rings. Amazingly, such was the support, we achieved that target in only four days. Thanks to all who made kind donations, the children of the school and the club have benefited immensely from this community spirit.

The school renovations around this time also included repairs to the leaking roof, a new basketball wind down structure to replace the old broken one and a new floor. Over the Easter break of 2021, together with volunteers from the mens team and the school maintenance staff, we repainted the whole hall in the school colours, reinstating some love and inspiration to all who use it.

Building on this foundation The Angmering Tropics together with support from CHR Wraps in Worthing are aiming to build on what has gone before and create more opportunities in the future for the local community to enjoy the game of Basketball.
